The Rhody Reader Box is a Celebration of all things Rhode Island from local authors to locally made products.
The Rhody Reader Box will feature a signed copy of author Elizabeth B. Splaine’s historical fiction novel, SWAN SONG, out in October, which takes readers through a tale of love, loss and perseverance during WWII. The story centers around Ursula, a Jewish opera singer who rises to fame in Nazi Germany and becomes the object of Adolf Hitler’s twisted obsession. Readers can also add a signed copy of another of Splaine’s books, DEVIL’S GRACE, a medical thriller based on two real-life stories and set in Rhode Island. The Rhody Reader Box will also feature a custom hand poured small batch soy wax candle, made with love in Bristol, RI by Juniper Hill Apothecary, a delicious custom chocolate handmade in Cranston, RI by Aura’s Chocolate Bar and a custom handmade beaded bookmark by Irene a local Riverside, RI maker. Those who purchase the Rhody Reader Box will be invited to an exclusive author event with Splaine. They will also be given access to the Swan Song playlist on Spotify.
"There is something magical about Rhode Island, the big-hearted little state where the ocean meets the land. Since relocating here with my family, two books have poured out of me onto the page”, says Splaine who is based in Barrington. Rhode Islanders are kind, tenacious, and smart, and those are the characters I like to write. I'm grateful for the warm reception my books continue to receive here, and I'm really proud to be part of the Ink Fish Books Rhody Reader Box, as Lisa Valentino continues to think outside the proverbial box (pun intended) to deliver a little bit of Rhode Island to your door."
Rhode Island blogger Patty J and Ink Fish Books have teamed up! Patty J (https://www.pattyj.com) is a Rhody native and the founder and blogger-in-chief at PattyJ.com, voted the best local lifestyle blog 3 years in a row. The non-profit, Books are Wings (https://www.booksarewings.org) from Pawtucket, RI has been selected to receive a donation from all Rhode Reader Book Box purchases. The Books are Wings organization puts free books in the hands of our Rhode Island children.
Ink Fish Books owner Lisa Valentino opened the doors to her Main Street store three years ago, to not only bring a bookstore to Warren, Rhode Island, but also showcase and support local makers and authors. “The Rhody Reader Box is an extension of why I began Ink Fish Books,” said Valentino. “The smallest state is full of creativity that should be shared and celebrated, not only locally, but with readers all across the region and even the country.”
